US tax returns for NRIs, with India in the picture

Your US return and your Indian income, handled together by Chartered Accountants who understand both. Returns will be signed and filed by a US-licensed CPA partner, now being finalised.

Who this is for

Returns where India makes the US return harder

Most preparers are comfortable with a W-2. The questions that go wrong are the ones that cross the border.

NRIs on a US visa or green card

F-1 and OPT, H-1B, L-1, and green card holders. Which form applies depends on your residency status, and a spouse or parents in India change the picture. We work that out first.

US citizens of Indian origin

Citizens and long-term residents who still have accounts, property, shares or family money in India, all of which the US return and the foreign-asset reports have to account for.

Anyone with income from India

Bank interest, rent, a property sale, mutual funds, EPF, PPF or NPS. We know what India taxes, what it exempts, and how each item is reported in the US.

What is covered

The US return and the reports that go with it

  • Form 1040 and Form 1040-NR, with state returns
  • Residency status: substantial presence, green card and dual-status years
  • Indian interest, rent, capital gains and dividends, converted and reported correctly
  • Foreign tax credit (Form 1116) and the India–US treaty
  • FBAR (FinCEN 114) and Form 8938 for Indian accounts
  • Mutual funds (Form 8621), foreign gifts (Form 3520), and Indian business interests (Forms 5471 and 8865)

Not sure which of these applies to you? The NRI tax guides explain each one in plain English.

How it works

Prepared by CAs, signed by a CPA

  1. Step 1

    Share your documents securely

W-2s, 1099s, Indian bank and property statements, and a short questionnaire on your year. Nothing is collected until the CPA is confirmed.

  2. Step 2

Our CA team prepares the return

Chartered Accountants who work with Indian income every day prepare the return and the foreign-asset reports, and ask when something does not add up.

  3. Step 3

A US CPA reviews, signs and files

A US-licensed CPA reviews the return and signs it as the paid preparer. You approve it before it is filed.

Where we are right now

We are finalising our US CPA partner, under whose licence returns will be signed and filed. We will name the CPA on this site and tell everyone who has registered before any return is prepared. Until then we are not taking documents or payment. Registering costs nothing and commits you to nothing: it means you hear first, before filing opens in early 2027.
