FAQ
Questions people ask before they register
Short, honest answers, including the ones that depend on our CPA partner, who is still being finalised.
Who prepares and signs the return
Who signs my return?
A US-licensed CPA reviews, signs and files every return. Our CPA partner is being finalised, and we will name them on this site as soon as the arrangement is confirmed. Until then we are not preparing or filing returns for anyone.
Are you a CPA firm?
No. We are a chartered accountancy practice in Delhi, India. We do not hold a PTIN or an EFIN, do not sign or file US returns, and are not licensed as a CPA firm in any US state. Preparation is done as support to a licensed CPA, who is responsible for the signed return.
Who are the people doing the work?
Ajay Arun Mehta & Associates is a firm of Chartered Accountants in practice since 1989, founded by CA Arun Mehta. Our India practice is at aamaca.com. The US CPA who signs will be named here once confirmed.
Registering and what happens next
Can I file with you now?
Not yet. You can register your interest, which is free and commits you to nothing. We are not taking documents or payment until the CPA partner is confirmed, and we will write to you when that happens. Filing for the 2026 tax year opens in early 2027.
What does it cost?
We have not published fees yet. They depend on how complicated your return is, and we will share them when the CPA partner is confirmed. Registering your interest does not oblige you to anything.
What happens after I register?
We reply with what we would need from you and what the next steps are. You will not be asked for documents, an SSN or payment at this stage.
Who we can help
Do I have to be an NRI or of Indian origin?
No. We prepare US returns for individuals, families, the self-employed and investors, and we have a particular depth of experience with returns that involve India. The NRI page and guides are there for people with income or accounts in India, and anyone else is equally welcome.
Do you prepare business returns?
We are starting with individual returns, including the self-employed. Bookkeeping for businesses is a separate service that is described on its own page.
Do you handle my Indian tax return too?
Our India practice, at aamaca.com, deals with Indian filings. If your US return involves Indian income, accounts or property, we can look at both sides together.
Can you help with earlier years, amended returns or an IRS letter?
Please ask. These are considered case by case once the CPA partner is confirmed. Our guide to IRS letters explains the common ones in the meantime.
Your information
Is my information safe if the team is in India?
We work to written confidentiality terms, with multi-factor authentication, and no client files are kept on local machines. US rules also require your consent before return information is disclosed to a preparer outside the United States, and that consent is obtained by the CPA. The security page sets out the details.
Should I send documents or my SSN now?
No. Please do not send tax documents or identification numbers by email, and do not include them in a registration message. We will tell you the secure way to share them when filing opens.
The guides on this site
Are the NRI tax guides tax advice?
No. They are general information, checked against official IRS sources and Indian-law sources, but thresholds and rules change every year and your facts may differ. Confirm anything that matters with a US CPA, and an Indian Chartered Accountant for Indian filings.
How current are the figures?
Each guide shows the date its rules were last checked. Where a figure changes every year, the guide says which tax year it refers to.
